Artist Statement Writing Workshop - Arbeit Studios In Conversation with Dr. Elly Clarke (2026)

  • Arbeit Studios - Lisson Grove Lisson Grove London, England, NW8 8FT United Kingdom (map)

A two hour artist statement writing workshop with artist, researcher and educator Elly Clarke. Through collective and independent writing exercises, including a series of poetic prompts, we will unlock new, creative approaches to writing about your work for exhibitions, websites, grant applications and so on - but also as a means of exploring and (re)encountering your working processes in new ways.

The workshop is both collaborative and participatory, with attendees strongly encouraged to join in with the collective editing of others' work.

Bring a 250-300 word artist statement you already have to work on your draft. Sharing your statement with the group is encouraged, but not compulsory!

Suitable for artists at all stages of their career.

Free to join.

About Elly Clarke

Elly Clarke has been helping artists write creatively and poetically about their work for more than six years, at MA and undergraduate level at Goldsmiths, Central Saint Martins, BIMM University, Arbeit Studios and beyond. During the sessions Clarke shares creative techniques to overcome writer's block and fear of the blank page, as well as the tendency to write about art in much more complicated language than necessary. The workshops encourage participants to write, speak and edit together, thus honing editing as well as writing skills.

Please contact Elly Clarke with any questions you may have about this session and find out more about them on the website: ellyclarke.com
