WHO WE ARE

WE MAKE SPACE WORK

We take empty spaces - ranging from small 750sq ft buildings to vast 15,000sq ft warehouses - and transform them into studio spaces for artists, designers, makers, start-ups and small businesses - to inspire creativity, connect communities and power ideas.

We have been managing spaces since 2010, and in that time we have grown by 20% each year. This tells us two things; that our model is working and that there’s always more empty space in London ready to be transformed.‘

MORE THAN MANAGING SPACES

We manage spaces, but we're about more than simply occupying units - We Make Space Work.

We manage more than 250 units in 16 sites across London, home to more than 250 businesses. Our studio users are from a range of industries, including arts, design, music, beauty and wellness, and  range in size from individuals to larger partners such as a fitness club and a cafe. Working with landlords, developers, councils and housing associations, we have a high level of occupancy in our spaces (between 95% - 98%) and work with the members and their needs to operate a flexible price approach.

CONNECTING COMMUNITIES

We are experts in creating inspirational environments for early-stage and established businesses. We’re proud that our spaces empower our users to interact and connect with each other as part of a community. Artists, designers, makers, small businesses and start-ups are all neighbours - architects practice next to fashion brands who design alongside photographers and jewellery makers.

NURTURING IDEAS

We put creativity and collaboration at the heart of everything we do. We run WORK/Series - a series of exhibitions, events and workshops, which support and benefit both the studio users and the local communities.

In addition to managing creative studios, we also run galleries located at two of our studio sites. The Leyton Green Gallery was created in partnership with Waltham Fashion District and has a focus on fashion, whilst the Trowbridge Garden Gallery predominately promotes local artists, designers and makers in Hackney Wick and Fish Island.

We are proud to MAKE SPACE WORK with: Southwark, Islington, Barking & Dagenham, Tower Hamlets, Brent, Haringay, Hackney and many other London borough councils.

I have had the pleasure of working with Arbeit Studios over the past 5 years during my time as Area Regeneration Manager at Hackney Council.

Their approach to delivering and managing affordable space for local businesses in the area has been exceptional. They are always looking to innovate and find new ways to engage the local community - they truly embed themselves in the area and strive to create additional social value for businesses and residents that use their facilities.
