Join us for an informal online lunch-hour session covering all aspects of Business Rates. Paul Phillips from Appeal My Rates will introduce what Business Rates are, explain when and how to apply for them, and answer some frequently asked questions:

• I’m an artist. Do artists have to pay business rates?

• Does the amount I pay depend on how much money my business makes?

• I share a studio with other artists. Who pays the business rates?

• I rent a desk in a coworking space. Do I have to pay business rates?

• Is my business eligible for relief and how do I apply?

In preparation for this event, we've created a business rate guide for our studio holders, so please ensure you read it before the event as some of your most basic questions might have been covered already.

Exclusive case analysis for Arbeit Studios tenants: We’ll also cover a more in-depth analysis of one personalised case during the live session, selected in advance from submitted cases by studio holders.

The case will be selected based on its suitability for the session, including whether the topic is likely to be relevant and useful to other studio holders. To increase your chances of being selected, please describe your case clearly and include as much relevant detail as possible.

  You should send your case to info@arbeit.org.uk. But please note: not all cases will be covered, and this will be chosen in advance, based on assessment of the case. So, to increase your chances, ensure you describe it really clearly and that it may cover topics that could interest others.

• Can I attend in-person?

  Unfortunately no; this event will be exclusively online, via Zoom/Meets link.
