<description>We are delighted to announce that ARBEIT in cooperation with ARTCH is going
to participate at BIG DANCE 2012!

Spontaneous Combustion is a one week festival organised by ARTCH during Big Dance with dance performances, workshops and exhibition. The first Spontanous Combustion was organised in Tower Hamlets in 2011. After an amazing feedback from our last year festival we are back, now as part of the Big Dance Festival. The festival will take place from 6 July till 14 July 2011 in Islington.

The aim of the festival is to give opportunity to the public to watch dance performances and to participate at various dance workshops. Also, it gives the opportinity to dancers to show their work. For one week, we would like to focus on dance and would like to invite everybody, both professionals and nonprofessionals, to join us.

We will show short performances (varies from 5 to 25 minutes) of professional and non-professional dancers. The style is not selective to one type, you can see modern, folklore, classical; and everything in-between. We hope that everybody finds something that he/she likes.

ARTCH is going to cooperate with ARBEIT and
LONDON SYMPHONY OF ORCHESTRA.

PLAN.OPEN. Hidden/Exposed

PLAN.OPEN is an innovative series of group exhibitions at the new Arbeit Gallery near London’s infamous Old Street. International and UK based emerging artists working in 2D and 3D are invited to submit work on a nominated topic, juried and curated by Arbeit representatives. The exhibitions are open to everyone with a low submission fee of £10 (£5 concession) to create equal opportunities.

Following the success of the first PLAN.OPEN. Formation, the second show invites artists to explore and stretch the dichotomy between the Hidden, the Exposed and everything in-between in PLAN.OPEN. Hidden/Exposed.

The Exhibition will be in early August 2012.

The selection will be foremost based on the quality of the work entered, over previous experience or awards. For the second exhibition artists are invited to submit work on their interpretation of the theme of Hidden/Exposed.

PLAN.OPEN will be awarding solo exhibitions to outstanding candidates, as well as feature pages on the website, newsletter and a low standard industry commission on sales for all exhibitors. Arbeit creates an affordable platform to showcase artwork and forge interdisciplinary relationships with other artists, as well as gaining exposure from the gallery’s involvement with East London’s First Thursdays.

to truly discover something new, you must dissolve all points of reference

LIMINAL STATES

existing on the threshold between two states of being

*****************************************************

A group show bringing together the work of four artists who share a bold and
uncompromising attitude to life.

To be alive means passing through a series of transitions. From conception to extinction
nothing's ever static.

Embracing these transient states and refusing the safe haven of certainty allows each to be fully immersed in the sea of all possibilities; free to explore these inner changes without pre-conceived outcomes.

*****************************************************

Paula Day
As a visual kleptomaniac Paula keeps and
hoards personal and collected images
recreating them through the act of
translation.

Since a painted scene can never be the
absolute translation, it is the loss between
the act of looking and that of painting which
Paula is interested in. Narratives and
associations start to develop revealing the
struggle between memory and forgetting.

Gaynor Perry
Shrugging off the mannered cloak of self"
awareness, Gaynor delves into the visual
world echoed in the dreaming mind. She
treads a path where the impossibility of
dreams remains possible and summons
forth the emotional truth hidden in plain
view.
Invoking these dream characters through
various mediums, Gaynor aims to capture
the fleeting moments between
perception and imagination.

Stan Leather
Starting from the premiss that we mostly exist in two places at any
one time, where conscious thought is only ever an observer of our
actions, Stan looks behind the mind's constant babble to explore
the inner drivers of this will and desire. Recognizing the changing
nature of this unspeaking underlying animal self.

Deborah Griffin

Deborah wields a confrontational politic!and exhilarating sense of fun
and transgression. This informs her current sculptural, installation
and image based artwork, exploring the relationship between the
simultaneous banality and violence of all that is beautiful and the
poetic gravity of all that is ugly.

"In this show Deborah explores the themes of liminanity via what we've come to understand by the word "baby" and some of its more elusive and intangible resononces."
